Laroque-Des-Alberes
These are just a few ideas- we have had alot of other good food in various places.Other renters have left their recommendations at the house too.
Eating Out
- Closest to the house, opposite the church round the corner to the left, and just 20 metres away is La Cueva. This used to be run by an English woman and her chef husband who is Spanish, but has been taken over by 2 local brothers .One has spent some time in England and loves to speak English! They have ste menus and a la carte. there usuallya menu de jour at lunchtime

-
Down by the town square is a small restaurant with a nice patio, The Café des Artistes (formerly the Shamrock) - very pleasant in the evening for a beer. Good, cheap food with kids dishes. Very relaxed .
-
Pizza Bar (see below). Most people get takeaways but they have just bulit a small terrace hwre you can stayand eat- good on a warm night.

Inside the pizza outlet - a genuine wood-fired pizza. They are delicious.
-
Les Palmiers, opposite the Cafe Des Artistes. Run by a Belgian couple, it has just been listed in the Michelin Guide , it has some set menus (the weekday lunch menu is good value) and also a la carte.
-
Chez Claude 9see below) on your right as you enter the village, just up from the café des Artistes. This is a real local bar local wine from a carafe with chips (crisps) handed out by Claude, to keep you thirsty! Wonderful atmosphere, You can get your takeaway pizza and eat it here.

-
The Creperie-right next to the Cafe des Artistes-it was new in 2010 so we havent tried it yet but it looked popular.
-
Le Catalan Bar (see below)- Local bar and hostelry. 3 mins walk from the house in the Place de Republic. Good beer - 1664 Heinekin - ask for 'seize cents'..

Other local eateries
-
A short drive away at Vives is a famous Catalan restaurant. Eating here is like eating in an antique shop but the waiters are friendly and the helpings are huge - be warned you need to fast before you go! Reasonable prices.
-
Our favourite for a special treat is La Balette at Collioure. This is very special with a lovely terrace overlooking the harbour They have set menus and a la carte the wine list is expensive but the service is amazing, the food is delicious with little extras provided to whet the mouth (amuse bouche). The set menu at lunch time during the week is good value . It usuuallu hasa couple of glasses of wine thrown in.
-
Also at Collioure on the main beach (rue Jean Bart) is Restaurant Amphitryon - specialities de la mer. Great for lunch - you can sit outside and keep an eye on your children on the beach.
-
Chez Margot - In Sorede, reliable, good French food.
